MDSS’s marine surveyors are recognised by both MNZ and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) and come from strong seagoing, vessel management and marine design backgrounds. This blend of practical and technical experience allows the team to deliver clear, well-informed assessments of a vessel’s condition and compliance with all applicable regulations. MDSS aims to provide clients with an accurate and reliable snapshot that supports safe operation and informed decision-making.

Marine surveyor services
Periodic Surveys
Performed under both the New Zealand maritime operator safety system and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority system. MOSS survey and AMSA survey services can confirm whether a vessel continues to meet commercial operation requirements.
Initial Surveys of New Vessels
These surveys are completed when a vessel is entering service for the first time. MDSS checks that the vessel meets relevant New Zealand and Australian Maritime Safety Authority standards and regulatory expectations before commencing operations.
In-Construction Surveys
These surveys are conducted during the construction of a vessel. They serve to confirm the construction quality and ensure that the build aligns with both the marine design specifications and relevant regulations.
Load Line Surveys
Surveys relating to a vessel’s Load Line compliance. MDSS’s experienced team of marine surveyors use their technical background to assess whether the vessel meets the requirements set out under the applicable rules.
Lifting Appliances (MNZ Part 49)
MDSS is a New Zealand National Inspection Agency for ship’s lifting appliances under MNZ Part 49, carrying out five-yearly load tests and annual surveys.
